Title Lead Teacher

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Leads a team of teachers across 1-2 grade levels to take collective ownership for all student achievement within their grade band. Sets the standard and ensures high quality instructional materials, data-driven personalized learning strategies, and effective student engagement practices are used across the team, by modeling excellence and establishing shared resources and practices. Provides mentorship to team members, including formal mentorship of an apprentice teacher.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree required

LICENSE: Must hold a valid Indiana State Teacher's License in Elementary Education (K-6). Must be deemed Highly Qualified in accordance with the Indiana Department of Education

EXPERIENCE

Required experience includes:

  • 3 years experience as an effective or highly effective licensed teacher
  • Demonstrated history of increasing student achievement
  • Demonstrated history of influencing other adults to improve student achievement

Preferred experience:

  • Instructional coaching and/or formally leading adults (i.e. manager or team leader)
  • Experience working in a Title I school or with a similar population of students

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIEs:

In addition to fulfilling the roles of a Sankofa teacher, own the student achievement of your team, leading collective responsibility for student learning through:

  • Facilitating the creation of shared resources and high-quality instructional materials, including leading adaption of existing curriculum to meet student needs
  • Facilitating internalization protocols to ensure preparation of team members
  • Guiding team-based student data analysis to inform personalized learning approaches responsive to demonstrated student needs
  • Directing strategic decisions about optimal use of time and staff resources to maximize student learning outcomes
  • Strategically delegating responsibilities based on identified student needs and individual team member strengths
  • Maintaining an exemplary classroom that serves as a model of excellence for professional learning
  • Providing specific, actionable feedback and meaningful recognition to team members, with special attention to supporting apprentice teachers
  • Effectively communicating team progress, resource needs, and growth opportunities to instructional coaches and administrators

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on- one, small group, and large group situations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
